Bhubaneswar(13/8) : On the occasion of World Organ Donation Day, a special commemorative awareness programme on organ donation was organised on 13 August 2026 at the Conference Hall of the Bhubaneswar Bar Association (BBA), Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with the Prajapita Brahma Kumari Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya, BJB Nagar, Bhubaneswar.
Programme witnessed an inspiring and unprecedented response from the legal fraternity, with more than 250 Advocates participating and taking the pledge to donate their organs, thereby reaffirming their commitment to the noble cause of saving and transforming human lives.
Programme assumes special significance as it followed the recent awareness initiative organised by the Brahma Kumaris, which had already generated considerable public interest in organ donation. Earlier programme highlighted the immense potential of organ donation to give hope and a new lease of life to patients awaiting transplantation.
Dr. Subash Chandra Sarangi Delivers Keynote Address
Keynote address was delivered by Dr. Subash Chandra Sarangi, Organ Donation Ambassador, MOHAN Foundation, who sensitised the legal fraternity about the importance of organ donation and the urgent need to transform awareness into informed action. Dr. Sarangi explained that organ donation is not merely a medical or technical issue but a profound humanitarian and ethical responsibility. He emphasised that a decision made during one’s lifetime to donate organs after death can potentially give the gift of life to several critically ill persons.
He also addressed common myths, misconceptions, apprehensions and doubts surrounding organ donation and transplantation. He stressed that an organ donor’s legacy can continue beyond death through the lives saved and transformed by the donated organs.
Referring to the enthusiastic participation of the Advocates, Dr. Sarangi observed that the legal fraternity occupies a uniquely influential position in society and can play a powerful role in taking the message of organ donation to families, institutions and communities. He urged the participants not only to pledge their organs but also to communicate their decision to their family members, so that the family’s awareness and support remain an important part of the donation process.
BBA President Ashok Chhotray Highlights the Significance
Addressing the gathering, Shri Ashok Chhotray, President, Bhubaneswar Bar Association, highlighted the profound significance of organ donation as an act of compassion, social responsibility and service to humanity. He appreciated the initiative of the Brahma Kumaris in bringing the subject of organ donation before members of the Bar and noted that the overwhelming response of the Advocates demonstrated the legal community’s sensitivity towards humanitarian causes.
Participation of more than 250 Advocates and their collective pledge, he observed, sent out a powerful message that the legal fraternity is prepared to contribute not only through professional service but also through acts of compassion that can directly touch and transform human lives.
Brahma Kumari Tapaswini: Charity is the Best Act of Humanity
Brahma Kumari Tapaswini, In-charge, Brahma Kumaris, BJB Nagar, delivered the welcome address. Speaking on the occasion, she described charity and selfless service as among the best expressions of humanity and kindness.
She emphasised that organ donation represents one of the highest forms of selfless giving because it enables a person, even after death, to continue serving humanity. She called upon the participants to look beyond personal considerations and recognise organ donation as an expression of love, compassion, kindness and human values.
Earlier Brahma Kumaris awareness programme had similarly emphasised that a conscious decision to donate organs after death can transform grief into hope and provide the precious gift of life to critically ill patients.
Soul-Stirring Poetry by BK Sister Susmita
A special attraction of the commemorative programme was the presentation of a self-composed poem by BK Sister Susmita, dedicated to the noble cause of organ donation.Through her sensitive and inspiring poetic expression, she brought out the deeper emotional and spiritual dimensions of donation—of giving beyond oneself, of transforming loss into hope and of allowing the journey of human service to continue even after one’s physical existence comes to an end.
The presentation added an emotional and reflective dimension to the programme and reinforced the message that the greatest gift one human being can offer another is the gift of life itself.
A Landmark Pledge by the Legal Fraternity
Most significant moment of the programme was the collective pledge by more than 250 Advocates to donate their organs. Pledge represented more than a numerical achievement. It symbolised a collective commitment by members of the legal fraternity to promote a culture of informed, voluntary and selfless organ donation.
Participants were encouraged to share their decision with their respective families and to motivate others to consider organ donation. Importance of informed decision-making and communicating one’s donation decision to family members had also been emphasised in the earlier awareness programme.
Programme reinforced the humanitarian message that one donor can potentially save and transform multiple lives, making organ donation an enduring expression of selfless love, compassion, service and human values.
A Meaningful Continuation of the Awareness Movement
Programme at the Bhubaneswar Bar Association marks an important continuation of the organ donation awareness movement initiated through the Brahma Kumaris’ community outreach programmes in Bhubaneswar.
Earlier programme had included awareness talks, practical information, distribution of MOHAN Foundation Organ Donor Cards and an on-the-spot demonstration of the online organ-donation pledge-registration process.
BBA programme took this message to a particularly influential section of society—the legal fraternity—and demonstrated that awareness can be converted into a concrete humanitarian commitment.
