Bhubaneswar, 27.7 : A State Level Seminar was organized today at Budha Mandir, Bhubaneswar by OBC Forum demanding reconstitution of Odisha State Backward Class Commission. It can be noted here that the Commission has stopped working since 1st January, 2024. Though the Govt. has renewed the Constitution of Odisha Human Rights Commission, State Women Commission and Protection of Child Rights Commission, no step has been taken by the Govt. to reconstitute the Backward Class Commission.
Hence OBC people in the State are suffering to legally assert for their Constitutional Rights. In this seminar organized under the Chairmanship of Mr. Rabi Behera has issued a warning to the Govt. for the formation of Backward Class Commission (15 days) or else they will organize a Protest Dharana before the Assembly and submit a memorandum to the Governor and Chief Minister. The Forum has also demanded 27% Reservation for Backward Classes in Three Tier Panchayatiraj Election and to increase 11.25% Reservation in Education and Employment to 27% for Backward Classes. The Forum has also demanded for accelerating the Caste Census in the State to give Justice to 52% of Backward Class population. It can be noted here that though from 1997 27% OBC Reservation was there in Panchayatiraj Election the same was withdrawn by the previous Govt. in 2022 three tier Panchayatiraj & Municipal Election. The present Govt. while in opposition has promised to reintroduced OBC Reservation of 27% which is not done till now says Mr. Rabi Behera, Chairman of OBC Forum. Besides Mr. Behera others
