Rourkela: In a heartwarming gesture of compassion and community service, the Rotary Club of Rourkela Queens donated an E-Rickshaw to the Spread Happiness Foundation to support the transportation needs of its Old Age Home. The vehicle was ceremonially flagged off by Ms. Kalpana Lenka, Chairperson, Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR), marking a significant step towards strengthening healthcare access for the elderly residents.
The foundation currently provides shelter, care, and support to elderly residents, including both men and women, ensuring their safety, healthcare, and well-being around the clock. Due to advancing age and various health conditions, many residents require frequent visits to Rourkela Government Hospitals and other healthcare facilities for regular check-ups, emergency treatment, and specialized medical care.
Until now, the organization has relied on hired auto-rickshaws for transporting residents to hospitals. This arrangement often resulted in higher transportation costs and long waiting periods, causing significant discomfort to senior citizens, especially during medical emergencies.
The newly donated E-Rickshaw will provide a dedicated and reliable mode of transport, enabling the foundation to take residents for timely medical consultations and treatments while reducing transportation expenses. The initiative is expected to improve the quality of care and ensure greater comfort and dignity for the elderly.
Speaking on the occasion, representatives of the Spread Happiness Foundation Chairperson Mr.Soumya Ranjan Mahapatro expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Rotary Club of Rourkela Queens for their thoughtful contribution.
