Cuttack(5/2) : The 4th National Conference of Translators, India’s largest conference dedicated to translation literature, concluded on 3 February with great joy, scholarly enthusiasm, and nationwide participation. The two-day conference stood out as a vibrant celebration of multilingualism, translation studies, and literary collaboration.
The conference was inaugurated by Swami Satyachaitanya, Director of Operations, Sri Sri University. Dr. Rindam Kundu, Convenor of the conference, warmly welcomed the guests and dignitaries. The inaugural session was graced by eminent speakers including Dr. Chandrasekhar Hota, Secretary, Odisha Sahitya Akademi; Prof. Keshari, Dean of Research and Academics, Sri Sri University; Guru Ratikanta Mahapatra, Dean, FACIS, Sri Sri University; and Dr. Dnyaneshwar Mulay, former IFS and Advisor to the National Skill Development Corporation.
A brief yet inspiring introduction to Bharatiya Anuvaad Sahitya was presented by its founder secretary Mr. Sarat Chandra Acharya. A major highlight of the conference was the conferment of the prestigious Bharatiya Anuvaad Sahitya Award 2026 upon renowned translator Mr. Pradipta Kumar Srichandan, which was received with warm applause.
The keynote address on “Translators as Co-authors: Reimagining Translation” was delivered by Prof. Jatindra K. Nayak, Chairperson, Shikshasandhan, along with Prof. Sayantan Dasgupta of the Department of Comparative Literature, Jadavpur University. The keynote session generated deep academic engagement and lively discussions.
The conference witnessed enthusiastic participation from researchers of Translation Studies from universities across India, translators representing national and international platforms, Sahitya Akademi Award–winning translators, committed young translators, poets, writers, publishers, and senior as well as emerging translators devoted to translation literature. The event proved to be a significant milestone in the field of translation studies.
Among the speakers, research scholars, poets, and authors who enriched the plenary sessions, panel discussions, technical sessions, and multilingual translated poetry reading sessions were Madhusudan Dash, Sukomal Dash, Bharati Ananda Anant, Dr. Saswati Saha, Swagatika Sahoo, Chinmyee Mishra, Himadri Swarup, Sukanta Kumar Sahoo, Dr. Shiksha Vats, Dr. Tridib Kr. Raghibul Haque and others.
For the first time, Bharatiya Anuvaad Sahitya released seven translated books in Odia, Hindi, Marathi, and Assamese during the conference and also felicitated distinguished Indian translators for their outstanding contributions.
Adding to the celebratory spirit, the book exhibition organized by Bharatiya Anuvaad Sahitya witnessed encouraging participation, with translated books worth ₹16,000 sold during the conference. The support extended by the Odisha Sahitya Akademi for the first time this year greatly motivated the organizers and participants.
At the valedictory session, Dr. Rindam Kundu, Ms. Nirlipta Pattanaik of Sri Sri University, and Mr. Sarat Chandra Acharya of Bharatiya Anuvaad Sahitya expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all speakers, delegates, volunteers, and supporting institutions for making the two-day national conference a memorable and resounding success.
