Kolkata(21/2) :Sahitya Akademi organised a Multilingual Poets’ Meet on the occasion of International Mother Tongue Day. In the programme, the welcome address was delivered by Devendra Kumar Devesh, Regional Secretary of Sahitya Akademi. While speaking from the chair, Vidyanand Jha read out some of his poems and thanked Sahitya Akademi for the steps it took for the promotion of Indian languages. He also appealed to the poets and the audience that for the sake of the promotion of one’s mother tongue, everyone should read at least one book in his language in a year and buy another book in his language for the purpose of gifting the same to somebody else. In the programme Bengali poet Aditi Basuroy, Bhojpuri poet Jeevan Singha, English poet Sekhar Banerjee, Hindi poet Poonam Sonchhatra, Nepali poet Narayan Prasad Homagai, Odia poet Saibalini Sahoo, Santali poet Chhaya Mandi, Punjabi poet Gurdeep Singh Sangha and Urdu poet Abuzar Hasmi with noted Maithili poet Vidyanand Jha. All of the read poems display the poets’ empathy with the circumstances. The simple and emotion language of the poems enthralled the audience. The vote of thanks was proposed by Kshetrabasi Naik, Assistant Editor, Sahitya Akademi.
