Mumbai (5/3): Report -Sanatan Mahakud. In a gran event, a historic Odia-Marathi language workshop was organized on 1st March 2026 at Odisha Bhavan in Navi Mumbai in collaboration with Odisha Sahitya Academy and Pravasi Utkal Sahitya Sanstha, Mumbai. The event held in Mumbai served as a vibrant platform for ideas, poetry and cultural heritage between the literary traditions of India’s two mother tongues. Bringing literary minds together, a unique workshop on Odia Marathi translated literature was organized on Sunday, March 1st, at Odisha Bhawan, Navi Mumbai, in a joint effort of Odisha Sahitya Academy and Pravasi Utkal Sahitya Asthaka. The event was chaired by Dr. Basudev Sriram Jogalekar, who gave a unique presentation on the lexical similarity of both languages and the issue of intimacy towards literature. Odisha Sahitya Academy President Dr. Chandrashekhar Hota’s intimacy towards language has created a golden bridge for the unveiling of an important chapter of the world of two languages in Mumbai. The dignified presence of Dinesh Pratap Singh, National President of Akhil Bharatiya Sahitya Parishad, Member of Marathi Sahitya Academy, added elegance to the gathering. The event was a green flow with the creative potential of our all-respected eloquent Tapasraj Maharana, President of Bangalore Odia Sahitya Samaj.
The presence of translator Radha Yogalkar, Dr. Sabita Rout Mahabali added depth to the Marathi literary perspective, while Dr. Dinesh Pratap Singh shed light on the connection between regional stories.
Odia writer Rashmi Mohapatra, translator Kendra Sahitya Akademi awardee Kamala Satapathy and Marathi writers and translators Aikreen Nuvarguni Dholram Gaikwad, Mahesh Leela Pandit, and Krishna Ki Boyohune represented the event in a translation workshop, creating a rich and comprehensive perspective on the two languages. Mumbai Odisha Bhavan Prakash Shambhu Bhushan Mishra, the chairman, and Odisha Sahitya Akademi Secretary Sanjay Kumar Kakralsingh, were present as the coordinators and were able to connect the historical relations and regional literature between Odisha and Maharashtra to readers worldwide through excellent management. Maitreyi Kamila of Utkal Sahitya Sanstha, Mumbai, read out a report on the migrants. Paramita Sarangi was in charge of the translation literature workshop. Dr. Arundhati Mohanty, Deepak Basti, Snehan Mishra, Sabita Tripathi, Deepali Basti, Tapan Patra, Krishna Mishra, Himanshu Prahraj played prominent roles. The most interesting moment of the program was the poetry recitation program in different languages that touched the creative spirit. Famous poets from across the country came together and recited poems touching on topics like nature, emotions and social change. To add to the excitement of the program, small children performed various cultural programs. From traditional dance to folk music, the children’s performances showcased the commitment of the diaspora to keep the indigenous culture alive in the Mumbai metropolis, including Sai, Ritu, Manas, Rishi, Subhadra, Mamata Biswas Team, Naonya, Manisha, Shreya, Aardhya, Deepanshu Team, Sanskriti, Sukriti, Tapasya Raut, RB Padhi.
“Language is not just a medium of communication; it is the carrier of our soul and history. This workshop is an initiative to strengthen the bond between the land of Jagannath and the land of Vitthal.” Dr. Chandrashekhar Hota, Secretary, Odisha Sahitya Academy, presided over the event. The event was well attended by over 500 people.
The literary discussion was followed by lunch. The audience was treated to Odia food and a nutritious meal, which brought the taste of Odisha to Mumbai.
The success of this workshop marks a new chapter in inter-state cultural engagement, proving that mother tongue and literature are truly not confined to geographical boundaries. The event was successfully organised with the full support of Akhandalamani Puja Samiti, Nerul.
